Why do I feel pain?

Physical pain is your body’s natural way of telling you that something is going wrong within your tissues, bones, muscles, or organs. The sensation isn’t pleasant, and you likely want to alleviate your pain as soon as possible.

In many cases, you can ease your pain without any medical intervention. If you hit your head, for example, you might feel better after applying some ice and waiting for a few minutes as the pain goes away naturally. However, it isn’t always that easy to rid yourself of discomfort. Certain conditions and injuries can cause long-term or widespread pain that requires ongoing treatment.

Chronic pain is pain that lasts for 12 weeks or longer. It might flare up and worsen intermittently or stay constant as a dull ache. Chronic pain comes from many different sources, including fibromyalgia, spinal stenosis, migraines, arthritis, neuropathy, and more.

When should I consider pain management?

Pain that lasts for a long time or comes back frequently can be challenging to manage on your own, and it might even affect your mobility. You should consider integrative pain management at Santa Fe Soul Center for Regenerative Medicine if:

  • You depend on medications to manage your pain
  • You can’t work efficiently because of your pain
  • You can’t sleep at night because of your pain
  • Your pain causes depression, anxiety, and other mental health complications
  • Your pain lasts three months or longer
  • Other treatments for your pain have failed to treat it

While chronic conditions causing chronic pain often have no cure, you can lead a fulfilling life with effective pain management strategies. Successful pain management can improve your sleep as well as your mental and social wellness.

How does pain management work?

Santa Fe Soul Center for Regenerative Medicine offers several treatment options and services for pain management. The team works with you to name specific goals and create a customized integrative pain management plan. Depending on the cause of your pain, its severity, and your personal preferences, your pain management plan might include:

Nutritional counseling

Adjusting your diet to include the nutrients your body needs can help your body function effectively and relieve some of the pain and inflammation associated with your condition.

Prolozone therapy

Prolozone therapy is a form of injectable ozone therapy that helps ease joint and soft tissue pain. Ozone, a highly concentrated form of oxygen, can aid in healing painful ligaments, muscles, and joints.

Electric acupuncture

Acupuncture is a treatment involving very fine needles. Your provider inserts them in your skin at varying depths to balance the flow of energy or Qi. During electric acupuncture, two needles share an electric current to better stimulate your pressure points and promote healing and pain relief.
